HF Update – 7 June 2025

French Polynesia, FO. G0VJG, will be active holiday style as FO/G0VJG from Bora Bora (OC-067), French Polynesia between 10 and 26 June. He will operate SSB, CW and digital on 80 to 6 metres. QSL via M0OXO’s OQRS and LoTW.

Wallis Island FW – The DX Obsessed Group (https://www.dxobsessed.org/home) will be active as FW5K from Wallis Island (OC-054) from 20 October to 7 November, including a Multi-2 entry in the CQ WW DX SSB Contest. Six operators (K6VHF, KA6BIM, N7JI, NC7M, NG7E, W7HER) will be active on 160 to 6 metres CW, SSB, RTTY and digital. QSL via Club Log’s OQRS; QSOs will be uploaded to LotW 6 months after the end of the DXpedition.

India New Prefixes. The VU2 and VU3 prefixes were first issued around 1929 and 1989, respectively. New amateur radio stations in India are now being issued call signs with new prefixes:
the prefix range of VU22 to VU29 is for General Grade licences;
The prefix range of VU32 to VU39 is for Restricted Grade licences.
The first call sign authorized under the new rules is VU22DX, issued to Sandesh “Sandy” Bhat who has recently upgraded his previous Restricted Grade licence of VU3FGJ.

Russia, UA0. Team RI0CR (R3BY, R5EM, RU3EG, RU5D, RW3XA, RZ3EC and UA3EDQ) will be active from Ustrichnyy Island (AS-114) between 15 and 20 July. They will operate CW, SSB and digital modes on 40-10 metres. QSL via RZ3EC and LoTW. See https://robinsons.ru/ri0cr/ for more information.

Greece, SV9. Team SX9G (SV1DPJ, SV1ENG, SV1GE, SV1JG, SV1YU, DD2CW, G0PZA, HB9EBC and VK2IR) will be active from Gavdos Island (EU-187) between 24 and 29 July, IOTA Contest included. QSL via Club Log’s OQRS, or via ON3UN.

UK Sovereign Base Areas on Cyprus, ZC4. Dave, G4WXJ will be active again as ZC4RH from Dhekelia, UK Sovereign Base Areas on Cyprus between 14 and 20 June. He will operate CW, SSB and digital on 40 to 6 metres. QSL via LoTW, Club Log’s OQRS, or via DK6SP.

Corsica, TK. Pascal, F6UIG will be active as TK2C from Corsica (EU-014) between 9 and 23 June. He will operate CW and SSB on 40 to 10 metres. He could also be active as TK/F6UIG/p while doing some POTA activities.

France, F. Celebrating IARU’s 100th anniversary, Dimitri, F4DSK and Lee, F5MUX will be active as TM0IARU between 7 and 21 June. They will operate mainly SSB and CW. QSL via LoTW and eQSL. Paper QSLs are not needed.

England, G. Look for M/ON6EF/p and M/ON1BN/p to be active from the Isles of Scilly (EU-011) between 25 and 28 July. They will participate in the IOTA Contest as G6EFW/p (QSL via ON6EF; QSOs will be uploaded to eQSL and QRZ Logbook). See www.qrz.com/db/G6EFW for more information.

The Netherlands, PA. Dennis, PA2DK and Pim, PA5PR will be active as PC38EU from Texel Island (EU-038) between 25 and 28 July, including participation in the IOTA Contest. QSL via the bureau and LOTW.

Sweden, SM. Joergen OZ0J, Anders OZ3ACB, Soeren OZ9U and possibly others will be active as SM/OV2E from Aspo Island (EU-138) between 24 and 28 July, IOTA Contest included. Outside the contest they will operate SSB, CW and digital modes on the HF bands and 6 metres. QSL via OZ0J; QSOs will be uploaded to LoTW and Club log.

Canada, VE. Jim, N6TQ will be active as N6TQ/VY0 from Devon Island (NA-009), Nunavut during the first two weeks of July. He and Matthias, KK7LJM will be stationed at the Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station (https://fmars.marssociety.org/). Plans are to be active when time permits and to operate CW (on or around 14 040, 21 040 and 28 040 kHz) and SSB (on or around 14 260, 21 260 and 28 460 kHz) “listening up”. They are members of the Advanced Team tasked with assessing, repairing, and readying the research station for the season ahead; expected dates are 3-12 July, but they may vary due to weather conditions. Alaska, KL. Puneit, VU2TUM and his wife Neha, VU2HUM will be active as KL7/VU2TUM and KL7/VU2HUM between 7 and 20 June while on a road trip to various locations in Alaska, possibly including POTA sites. They will be active on 40 to 6 metres, as well as on 2 m and 70 cm. QSLs via VU2TUM.

USA, W. This year’s Youth on the Air summer camp for young radio amateurs aged 15 to 25 in the Americas will be held between 15 and 20 June near Denver, Colorado (https://youthontheair.org/denver2025/). Campers will operate special event station W0Y during breaks between sessions. In addition, there will be dedicated operating times on the HF bands and satellites, as well as for a POTA/SOTA activation (see qrz.com for the details).
