HF Update – 24 May 2025

Mozambique, C9. In July, members of the Russian DXpedition Team will attempt to operate from two IOTA groups in Mozambique. They are unable to make any promises at this time as the project is quite challenging and risky and its success will depend on several variables, including road conditions and the availability of local assistance. The approximate schedule is as follows – 5 to 11 July C94RRC Inhacamba Island (AF-103) and 13 to 19 July C93RRC Chiloane Island (AF-098). Hopefully, they will be able to run at least two high-power stations 24/7 on 40-6 metres CW, SSB and digital. QSLs via Club Log’s OQRS. See https://dxpedition.wixsite.com/mozambique2025 for more information. For the record, AF-098 was only activated once (C93DY, July-August 2005), whereas AF-103 was activated twice (C94KF, August 2006 and C91VB/4, December 2006).

Italy, I. IK8VRH and IW8BVN will be active from Ventotene Island (EU-045) from 30 May to 2 June. They will operate SSB and digital as IB0DX on 40 to 10 metres and as IR0DX on 6 metres. QSLs via IK8VRH; QSOs will be uploaded to LoTW and Club Log.

France, F. Commemorating the 85th anniversary of Operation Dynamo, the Radio Club Jean Bart of Dunkerque (F6KMB) is active as TM85DYN from 17 to 31 May. QSL via eQSL only. Operation Dynamo was the epic evacuation of more than 338 000 Allied soldiers from the beaches and harbour of Dunkerque between 26 May and 4 June 1940.

France, F. Members of the F4KIS radio club will be active as TM41GM from 27 May to 10 June. The suffix stands for “greve des mineurs”, the strike of 100 000 miners of Nord-Pas-de-Calais in 1941 which was one of the earliest acts of collective resistance to Nazi occupation in France. Electronic QSLs will be available for download on https://log-et-qsl.associations-radioamateurs.org/wp/boutique/

Chile, CE. Cezar VE3LYC, Felipe XQ7IR, and Johan PA3EXX will attempt to operate as 3G1P from the Islotes Pajaros (SA-100, new one for IOTA) between 18 and 23 August. Depending on the available space, they intend to operate 2 or 3 stations, as much as possible around the clock, on 40-10 metres. They will prioritize CW and SSB, but they will also be active on digital. QSL via Club Log’s OQRS (direct or bureau), or direct to VE3LYC. “One of these two rocks has a round shape with a diameter of just under 60 m, while the second one is oval in shape, about 60 by 30m. Both rocks are very rugged, and landing can only be attempted by swimming to them and pacing against the waves. They also have very steep slopes, and host colonies of sea lions and cormorants. This is a daring project, involving a number of hazards and risks and the team hopes that island chasers and DXers at large will support their effort,” see https://3g1psa-100.weebly.com/ for more information.

Canada, VE. To celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Dobson Trail, Canada’s longest volunteer-maintained trail, special event station VC9DT will be active throughout June. Operators will be active on multiple bands on SSB and digital. QSL via VE9CF. See https://www.qrz.com/db/VC9DT for award information and further details.
